Recycling

The Elk County Recycling Department provides assistance to residents by providing collection services for recyclable items in each of our local communities.  The regular collection schedule is listed below.  Each spring, the department coordinates an "e-waste" collection which provides a way for residents to recycle electronics, paint containers and other items which are often difficult to dispose of.

WHEN RECYCLING, THE FOLLOWING TYPES OF HOUSEHOLD ITEMS ARE ACCEPTED

Plastic Containers - rinsed, crushed and sorted:

Marked with a 1 - these are usually soft drink and juice containers that you can see through
Marked with a 2 - these are milk and large water jugs that are not dyed
Colored detergent bottles

Steel cans all sizes - rinse, it's not necessary to remove labels
Aluminum cans - rinse and crush
Newspaper
Magazines
Office or mixed paper - all junk mail and miscellaneous paper all weights and colors
Cardboard - remove all non-cardboard packing and break down to lay flat

PLEASE - NO PETROLEUM CONTAINERS!
